The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) is a not-for-profit international regulatory authority whose mission is to ensure the reliability of the North American bulk power system. NERC develops and enforces Reliability Standards; annually assesses seasonal and long-term reliability; monitors the bulk power system through system awareness; and educates, trains, and certifies industry personnel. As the Electric Reliability Organization (ERO), NERC is subject to oversight by the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and governmental authorities in Canada. NERC’s jurisdiction includes users, owners, and operators of the bulk power system in the United States, Canada, and parts of Mexico.NERC’s Reliability Standards are designed to ensure the stability of the bulk power system against physical and cyber security threats. Its standards cover a wide range of areas, including but not limited to system planning, operation, and protection. The Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards, a subset of NERC’s standards, focus specifically on protecting the bulk power system’s critical cyber and physical assets from security threats and vulnerabilities. To assist understanding of NERC reliability functions and standards we developed NERC GPT, currently available on the OpenAI GPT Store. The GPT's capabilities will grow and eventually be available natively on this website. We will post a feature suggestion and feedback form at a future date.
